Ayurveda - The Origin Story

To appreciate the depth and cosmic nature of this ancient science, one first has to be introduced to the Vedic Civilization. Historical records of this civilization point to the earliest literature being dated around 5,000 B.C. - though here on this platform you’ll find a different perspective on the history of this civilization.

According to the science of Ayurveda itself - it is in fact the science of all Creation. It is translated as the Veda - Total Knowledge, of Ayu - Life & Lifespan - that is the life and lifespan of all of Creation. It presents itself as the science of the Universe, as the mechanics and dynamics of all Creation, as the technical blueprint of the operation of our Universe. There is a story within the Ayurvedic literature that says simply:

When the Creator (Brahma) finished creating the Universe - He remembered Ayurveda. Having created many Creations over the timelessness of all things, he rediscovered the underlying science that operates within all parts of Creation. He then took company with the great Deity - Shiva - to discuss the Nature of this science.

Here we see a version of the origin story of Ayurveda which is entirely cosmic in Nature. If this is in fact the truth, then we might be able to appreciate more deeply the application and insight this science provides.

Ayurveda is often referred to as a Living Science - and in my own experience I can attest to this. The principles and concepts of Ayurveda seem to be built into Consciousness itself and as such the application and experience of them seem to go hand in hand with spiritual development and awakening.

Ayurveda emerged from Consciousness itself in the form of the blueprint of creation. Like other sciences of the Vedic Tradition, it has its origin in the Truth of Creation and has found its living expression on this Earth in the Consciousness of those great humans who have cognized, experienced and propounded its form for the betterment of all Life on Earth.
