Ayurveda - Introduction to the Basic Principles

“Information is not Knowledge.” - Albert Einstein

This is a fitting way to begin our presentation of the theoretical world of Ayurveda - with this expression made by one of the most competent minds in recent history. Information is information: details, data, constructs which are often useful in some particular avenue of life and not necessarily universally relevant.

Knowledge can be thought of as a union of information, experience and higher dimensional relevance. This is an important distinction to consider before we really begin diving into the details of this incredibly sophisticated body of knowledge that is Ayurveda.

The reason for this is that Ayurveda can hardly be considered an informational system - but a system which presents the opportunity for us to glean Truths. These principles are profoundly subtle and speak to & on a much deeper level of life than say our anatomy or psychology.

One example of this is the fact that in all of the available literature on Ayurveda there is not one single mention of a nutrient (protein, vitamins etc.) Ayurveda does however refer to the non-material forces that govern the functioning of the mind/body system. This is of cosmic significance - many of us are instinctively aware of the presence of an inner intelligence governing many of our mind/body dynamics, but without a clear classification, categorization or identification of that intelligence.

Ayurveda provides a beautiful and profound template to apply to this abstract, ultimately unfathomable network of forces governing different dimensions of our existence.

Our presentation of the nature and function of that inner intelligence is not meant to lay claim to the entire phenomenon, but simply to provide an angle on that subtle level of life that can prove to be empowering.

There are many great systems of knowledge, both ancient and modern alike, which give great insight - in their own way and from their own angle - on the nature of life, of our human mechanism, and of the processes of healing. We invite you to take what works for you and to explore the possibility of an augmented journey of healing with what you find here.

We hope you enjoy, and thank you.
